Second tier: St Maarten, Antigua, Viareggio, Auckland, Sydney, Dubai, San Diego. Cape Town for cheaper certificates.

Auckland has no purpose built crew house of its own inside the Viaduct, Wynyard and Westhaven marine precinct. The closest thing is CQ Crewquarters, two Ponsonby houses at 237 Ponsonby Road and 89 College Hill, a short walk from Westhaven Marina and the Viaduct. Captains and crew who have stayed there during refits recommend it, but bookings run on a seven night minimum and there is no published rate. You call or email direct.

Most crew in Auckland organise private short lets instead, and the refit yards themselves fill the gap. Orams Marine does not run a crew house, but its team books serviced apartments or larger crew houses near the Wynyard Quarter yard on your behalf, in whatever room configuration you need.

Whangarei is the bigger refit hub

An hour north, Whangarei is where anything spending real time ashore goes, to Oceania Marine and Port Nikau. There is no single named crew house here either. The local agent Urban Sea, based at Port Nikau, keeps a portfolio of furnished houses and apartments and lets them to crew and contractors for the length of a refit. A 2026 industry article names two of their most used cottages, but that mention could not be independently confirmed as current, so treat it as a lead to raise with Urban Sea rather than a bookable listing.

If you need a bed in town rather than a whole house, The Cell Block, a converted 1960s jailhouse hostel five minutes from Town Basin, is the budget fallback and is well reviewed into 2026.

What a bed costs in 2026

Nobody in this hub publishes rack rates. Expect to negotiate direct. Budget hostel beds run roughly NZD 50 to 80 a night as a ceiling reference.

The season runs the other way round

New Zealand's superyacht season is the opposite of the northern hemisphere. Boats arrive for the Southern Hemisphere summer, roughly November through April, so refit yard housing in Whangarei and crew demand in Auckland peak over that window. Outside it, availability is easy and rates soften.

How crew actually book

Almost entirely by phone or email, not online platforms. No obvious scams turned up in this hub. The bigger risk is that crew house listings on the general directories are thin here, and some pages are blocked from automated checking, so verify anything you find there by calling first.

Urban Sea, Superyacht Shoreside Crew AccommodationLocal agent that arranges furnished shoreside houses/apartments for crew and contractors during Whangarei refits rather than running one fixed address. A 2026 industry roundup names two of their most-used serviced cottages (30 First Avenue and 36 Mill Road, Whangarei) but we could not independently confirm those are still current crew lets beyond that one mention, so they are not listed as separate entries. The Cell BlockA converted 1960s jailhouse hostel used by budget travellers generally, not a yacht-crew house. Listed here as the fallback option in Whangarei town if Urban Sea's houses are full. • Marua Retreat (Northland glamping) Named by a 2026 industry article as a crew R&R option near Whangarei, but it's a weekend eco-glamping cabin 25 min out of town, not shoreside crew housing, excluded as out of scope, not a housing option

  • Private Airbnb bookings Multiple sources say privately-arranged Airbnbs are the most common Auckland crew accommodation, but that's not a listable venue

Straight answers

When is the season in Auckland?

Roughly November through April. New Zealand's superyacht season runs opposite the northern hemisphere, so refit yard housing in Whangarei and crew demand in Auckland peak over the Southern Hemisphere summer.

Is there a crew house in Auckland?

One. CQ Crewquarters runs two Ponsonby houses, at 237 Ponsonby Road and 89 College Hill, a short walk from Westhaven Marina and the Viaduct. Bookings run on a seven night minimum and there is no published rate, so call or email direct.

What if there is no bed at the crew house?

The yards arrange it. Orams Marine does not run a crew house but books serviced apartments or larger crew houses near its Wynyard Quarter yard on your behalf. In Whangarei, the agent Urban Sea holds a portfolio of furnished houses let to crew and contractors for the length of a refit.

BEFORE YOU DOCKWALK

Your CV is the only thing that walks the dock when you can't.

Captains read a CV in about thirty seconds. Most green CVs lose them in ten. SeaPapers builds the CV a captain expects: yacht fields, department templates, two-page discipline. Free to build. No card.

BEFORE YOU BUY A SINGLE COURSE

See what your job actually needs.

Every yacht role wants different paper, and half of it has an expiry date. See the requirements for your role, then keep every certificate, medical, passport and visa where a boat can reach it in one link.

Then store them in the SeaPapers folio.

Both are SeaPapers. Same captain, same standards.
