Crew houses in Auckland
Whangarei is the bigger refit hub
An hour north, Whangarei is where anything spending real time ashore goes, to Oceania Marine and Port Nikau. There is no single named crew house here either. The local agent Urban Sea, based at Port Nikau, keeps a portfolio of furnished houses and apartments and lets them to crew and contractors for the length of a refit. A 2026 industry article names two of their most used cottages, but that mention could not be independently confirmed as current, so treat it as a lead to raise with Urban Sea rather than a bookable listing.
If you need a bed in town rather than a whole house, The Cell Block, a converted 1960s jailhouse hostel five minutes from Town Basin, is the budget fallback and is well reviewed into 2026.
What a bed costs in 2026
Nobody in this hub publishes rack rates. Expect to negotiate direct. Budget hostel beds run roughly NZD 50 to 80 a night as a ceiling reference.
How crew actually book
Almost entirely by phone or email, not online platforms. No obvious scams turned up in this hub. The bigger risk is that crew house listings on the general directories are thin here, and some pages are blocked from automated checking, so verify anything you find there by calling first.

Where crew stay: 5 places, checked 19 August 2026
| Name | Type | Status | From | Min stay | Distance | Booking | Verified |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CQ CrewquartersTwo Ponsonby houses run by Steve and Louise; minimum booking is 7 nights. No published nightly or weekly rate; ask the number direct. Long-praised by captains and crew for refit-period stays. | Crew house | no published rate | Close to Westhaven Marina, Viaduct Harbour and the Auckland marine precinct (site does not give exact minutes) | Website, Phone | 19 Aug 2026 | ||
| Orams Marine, Crew Housing (booking service)Not a crew house itself, Orams' team books serviced apartments or crew houses near the yard on the crew's behalf, in whatever configuration suits. Contact superyacht enquiries directly (Richard Low) rather than expecting a listing to browse. | Agency run | no published rate | On-site at the yard; books serviced apartments an easy stroll away and larger crew houses 5 minutes away | Email, Phone | 19 Aug 2026 | ||
| Urban Sea, Superyacht Shoreside Crew AccommodationLocal agent that arranges furnished shoreside houses/apartments for crew and contractors during Whangarei refits rather than running one fixed address. A 2026 industry roundup names two of their most-used serviced cottages (30 First Avenue and 36 Mill Road, Whangarei) but we could not independently confirm those are still current crew lets beyond that one mention, so they are not listed as separate entries. No published rate; quote on enquiry. | Agency run | no published rate | Based at Port Nikau Marina, adjacent to the shipyards | Email, Phone | 19 Aug 2026 | ||
| The Cell BlockA converted 1960s jailhouse hostel used by budget travellers generally, not a yacht-crew house. Listed here as the fallback option in Whangarei town if Urban Sea's houses are full. No confirmed per-bed rate at time of check; aggregator sites showed rooms 'from NZD 59' but that figure was not confirmed as a per-bed dorm price at source. | Hostel | no published rate | Roughly 0.4 km / 5 min walk from Town Basin Marina; Port Nikau/Oceania Marine shipyard is several km further out | Hostelworld, Booking.com | 19 Aug 2026 | ||
| Haka House Auckland CityGeneral backpacker hostel, not crew-specific, but close enough to the Viaduct/Wynyard marine precinct to be a fallback for crew doing day work or job-hunting. No confirmed per-bed dorm rate found; listed promotional 'from' prices on aggregator sites were ambiguous about room type. | Hostel | no published rate | Roughly 1-1.5 km / 15-20 min walk to Viaduct Harbour and Wynyard Quarter | Hostelworld, Booking.com | 19 Aug 2026 |

When to arrive and who hires
Beds are half the question. The season decides whether turning up is worth the airfare, and the agencies decide whether anybody reads your CV once you are there. Both are on the Auckland hub page, along with the map and the daywork rate.
